Pronounce "SCHEVENINGEN".

As I was reading up on some dutch culture for my design case study... I came upon this paragraph that talked about the Dutch language.

"Many visitors mistakenly think that the Dutch language comes from German. This is absolutely incorrect, and is even considered insulting by many Dutch and German speakers. Dutch is a Germanic language, but is still very different; it is definitely NOT easy for Germans to speak Dutch, or vice versa. Example: during the war, some Germans hiding in Holland pretended to be Dutch. Many of them were caught when they were asked to pronounce the word SCHEVENINGEN (a sea side resort near The Hague). The popular belief was that it is impossible for Germans to pronounce this word correctly (also impossible for English speakers!), and so that's how they were caught. "

This reminded me of the same example this dutch guy whom I shared a train cabin told me about. (Hun, if you remembered, I asked to ride with this rather cute guy with a discount pass to go home fr your Delft.) It was fun cuz he was quite easy to talk to, raised this example after I told him how difficult it was to learn Dutch. Then when he mentioned Scheveningen it was quite coincidental too cuz i had just visited that beach with hun on that same trip. Quite unfortunately, I think I might have made another friend(since we could chat quite well, he was from Tu/e too but engineering and doing his masters, had an exchange internship in India. cool.), but I walked the other way without being able to say bye to him cuz the crowds quickly separated us though we alighted the same stop.

So... yeah. the point is... sometimes potential friendships just slip off like that.
